Blogs: Why Everyone Is Going Crazy

April 18th, 2008 Posted in Blogs

Blogs are web logs on a web site that are updated on a regular basis, with the most recent posting appearing at the top of the blog. Sometimes they look like an ongoing diary or a journal on a site. Blogs are usually written in conversational style and can include text, images, and links to other content or to audio or video files.

In this and future posts we’ll cover:

  • What a blog is
  • How you can create a blog
  • Whether or not you should blog
  • The benefits of having a blog
  • Promoting your blog

A blog is a chonological publication or online journal of postings to a web site. The blog can include text, images, links to video files, links to audio files, or links to other web sites. Writing the content for your blog is referred to as blogging. Each article that you add to your blog is called a blog post, a post, or an entry in your blog. You are a blogger if you write and add entries or posts to your blog.

Blogs usually focus on one topic or area of interest. For example:

  • A person might have a personal blog on his or her trip through South Africa.
  • A market analyst might have a blog on his or her findings in a particular market niche - what’s happening in the industry, news or articles on his or her latest research.
  • A software company might have a blog on the latest version of its software product, update information, and upcoming enhancements.
  • A tourism company might write a blog about a specific geographic region and discuss the many sights to see in that area.

Blogs have become quite popular for many businesses in the last two or three years because they are easy to set up, inexpensive to run, and carry huge, huge marketing benefits. Stay tuned and we’ll discuss the benefits of blogging in more depth in later posts. Or, if you simply can’t wait that long, have a look at my Blogging Webinar!
