Newsgroups: Where Do You Find Them?
March 21st, 2008 Posted in Effective Promotional Use of NewsGroupsFinding newsgroups isn’t hard. All you have to do is go online to your favorite search engine and make a query for newsgroups within your niche. But there are some things to look for in a newsgroup that you should be aware of.
First, there are free newsgroups and there are newsgroups that charge for your participation. I’m not going to say that one is better than the other because that’s a choice that you’ll have to make, but I would start with the free newsgroups first. You can find free newsgroups at Google and Yahoo! Both search engines have groups that you can join and they are free.
Newsgroups that charge, though, can also be helpful. Just be sure that you don’t spend money joining a newsgroup that isn’t going to benefit you. There are thousands of them out there and they can be broad in their topical relevance or narrow. You’ll have to decide which is best for your company. Since tourism is a broad category of business, you might be better off with a narrower focus if you specialize in a particular type of tourism or specific geographic area. Weigh those decisions carefully and you’ll be able to pick the right newsgroup pretty easily.
