April 16th, 2008 Posted in Really Simple Syndication

RSS, or Really Simple Syndication, provides webmasters and content providers a distribution vehicle for their content that is guaranteed to be delivered. This distribution channel makes it easy for individuals to access the most current information, but also for other site owners to publish the syndicated content on their sites as well.

We’ll discuss important details about RSS on this blog in this and future posts, including:

  • What it is
  • How RSS works
  • What you can send via RSS
  • The benefits of RSS
  • How to promote your syndicated content
  • Getting the most out of Really Simple Syndication

RSS is an acronym for Really Simple Syndication. It is a format for syndicating news and other content, which can be broken down into discrete items. RSS is really a delivery channel. It allows you to send content to subscribers and to other web sites. Once information is in RSS format on a web site, an RSS reader can check the feed for updates and react to the updates in a predefined way. RSS can deliver many different types of content - text, PDF files, audio, video, or PowerPoint files can quickly and easily be disseminated as well.
