Search Engine And Directory Submissions Are Vital For Your Web Site
March 10th, 2008 Posted in Search Engine and Directory SubmissionsSearch engine and directory submissions are two ways to increase the chances of your web site being found by the people searching for your information. First, you should optimize your web site for your important keywords. Once you’ve done that then you can begin submitting your web site.
When I say “search engines” I mean a variety of search engines and directories. I’m talking about search engines, directories, spiders, and crawlers. You want your web site to be on the first two pages of the search engine for the best possible chance of success. That is not easy. And it’s getting more challenging every day.
I will cover the search engine and directory submission process in more detail in later posts, but right now it is important for you to understand that the submission process is vital. To start, let’s define some key terms:
- Search Engine - Google, Yahoo!, Teoma, MSN; these search engines allow you to submit your URL for inclusion in their indexing.
- Directory - Yahoo! Directory, Open Directory (DMOZ), Business.com. To submit to a directory you have to visit the site and fill out an online submission form.
- URL - Uniform Resource Locator; this is your web site’s address and looks like http://www.yourcompanyname.com.
Now that you understand the basics of web site and directory submissions, we’ll cover this in more detail in the next post. Or, if you can’t wait for that, check out my Directory Submission webinar!
