Two Viral Marketing Tools Your Tourism Business Can Use

March 5th, 2008 Posted in Spreading The Word with Viral Marketing

When it comes to viral marketing for your tourism business, there are two very powerful tools that are gaining in popularity more and more every day. I believe both of these tools are invaluable to the tourism business for a couple of reasons. First, people love to travel and online travel research is one of the most used aspects of Internet research (and it’s growing by the day!). Secondly, the Internet is becoming more and more multimedia oriented every day. Both of these tools can be used by the tourism industry to further promote the industry and individual businesses within the industry.

The first viral marketing tool that I’d recommend is podcasting. Podcasting is the practice of recording audio and uploading it to the Internet. It is so easy to do and the return that you can get from this easy-to-use tool is so incredible. Chances are, if you are a tourism company that offers tours in your area then you already have audio files of some kind that you can use. You may have to convert them to digital format, but that is relatively easy to do and all you’ll have to do then is upload it to your website.

Take an excerpt of an audio tour guide and upload it to your website to show your visitors what they will get by taking your tour. If you use a provocative piece of the tour guide then you can distribute it to podcast directories, which will lead to additional traffic to your website and those files are often re-distributed online through blogs and on other travel-related websites. Every time another blogger or tourism business website owner uses your podcast, you’ll be marketing to a different audience.

The second technology that I recommend is video marketing. Again, if you have video footage of a tour that you offer or a tour marketing video then you can distribute it online as well. Upload it to YouTube and you’ll see the same traffic hikes that your podcasts produce.

Viral marketing can increase your business online in unimaginable ways. Podcasting and video marketing are both viral marketing methods that are inexpensive, easy to implement, and well worth the price and time to incorporate into your marketing plan.

Has anyone out there heard about WideCircles.com. It seems like a way better service then wasting money on PPC. Apparently they are using refering websites ( forums, blogs, wiki, etc. ) and have a viral word of mouth distributed approach to it. My friend told me he got around 100 visits from single post which cost him $0.40c. I am going to give them a try today . In case you are intrested here is it. http://widecircles.com?s=imt1
