Hyperlinks In Signature Files Help Brand You
May 25th, 2008 Posted in Utilizing Signature Files To Increase Web Site TrafficThe best way to add a signature file to your e-mail, or anywhere else online that you intend to use one, is to make your URL a hyperlink so that people can both see what your website address is and they click the link. Sometimes your link won’t be activated, for whatever reason, and in those cases the recipients on your correspondence will still be able to see what your website address is. At the very least they will be able to copy and paste the URL into their website browser.
Here’s an example of a sig file, taken from my website:

This is just one example, but notice the information that I include. Also, notice that I have hyperlinked my e-mail address to make it easy for people to click on and if their web browser for any reason de-activates my link then they can still copy and paste the URL. That isn’t likely to happen, but it’s good to think about what will happen if it does. Another thing you can see is that I have bolded my name with < strong > tags. That makes it stand out and it is more noticeable.
If you weren’t already on my website then I’d include my website address as a hyperlink in the same manner that my e-mail address is hyperlinked. That way, people will find it easy to connect with me online. Other information you might include in your sig file may be profiles at popular social networking sites you belong to, a tag line, or an offer with a call to action. However you do it, a signature file is a simple way to brand your name in front of your target audience.
