Storyboarding Is Your Blueprint To Web Site Construction Success

February 29th, 2008 Posted in Your Site-From Story Boarding to Programming

Before you start the construction of your new web site, you need to storyboard it. The storyboard is your blueprint for the web site. Between storyboarding and construction, you need to take several other steps or you’ll end up in a mess. Some things you need to consider include:

  • Detailed web site planning (do this before one line of code is written)
  • Develop your content guidelines
  • Define your text guidelines
  • Also include guidelines for use of color on your web site
  • Navigation considerations should be thought about as well
  • Graphics – what graphics do you see your web site using?
  • Incorporate visual guidelines
  • Other considerations not included in the above

No two web sites are the same. That’s why you need a blueprint. Your storyboard will keep you on track throughout your web site construction. You wouldn’t think of building a house without a plan, would you? What about a business? Well, your web site should be treated as its own separate business – even if it is an extension of your current business, it will have its own unique challenges. Your web site storyboard will solve a lot of problems for you before you encounter them so do not leave out this very important step in the web site development process.
